Training Overview

Training Structure

Program participants will be enrolled in at most one training sequence in each quarter of the program. These training sequences range from basic programming in Stata to modules teaching data scraping in Python. The sequences are meant to be complements to what you are learning in courses in the econ major.

  • Training sequences are mandatory once you’re enrolled in one. Failure to complete will mean that you will not be allowed to continue with the program next quarter.

Data Tasks

Data tasks are mandatory for all applicants. These data tasks help us get an idea of your coding proficiency and allows us to sort you into a training sequence suitable for you.

  • Applicants who demonstrate coding proficiency in multiple areas will not be required to participate in any training sequence

  • All other applicants will be required to participate in at least two training sequences to get a program certificate and a recommendation letter

Stata Training Sequence

All new program participants who have not passed the Stata data task will be required to undergo Stata training. You will be automatically enrolled in the Stata training sequence.

Once you complete the Stata training sequence, or if you have demonstrated coding proficiency in Stata, you can optionally take the following sequences:
